El Ejido held a respectful and emotional minute of silence in the Plaza Mayor today in memory of the victims of the train accident that occurred this morning in the Toledo town of Urda.

The mayor of El Ejido, Julia Ibáñez, said that "with this minute of silence we want to show our mourning for the victims of the tragic train accident in Urda and convey all our solidarity and support to their families. We share their pain and hope that progress can be made in the recovery of all those affected."

He also added that "we are deeply dismayed by what happened. At this time, the most important thing is that all the necessary means are deployed to rescue people and care for the injured."

The emergency services, health teams and all the people who work to care for victims have also been recognized.

The City Council of El Ejido has thus joined the minute of silence convened by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) after the collision of a Renfe and an Iryo train at the height of Urda (Toledo). A tragic accident that has caused, so far, at least 68 deaths and 80 injuries.
