The El Timon Association celebrates its annual gala in which it emphasizes claims on mental health

The association El Timon has held its annual gala at the Auditorium Theatre of El Ejido which in this edition has been developed under the title ‘Two better than one: a night of music and humor’. The mayor of El Ejido, Julia Ibáñez, attended this gala accompanying the president of El Timón, Cristina González.

In collaboration with the theater group La Rebolica, it has become a very special event in which music and humor have come together to share moments of fun, conviviality and solidarity, contributing to give visibility to mental health and to support the work that the association develops, since the collection is intended to give continuity to the activities and projects of the entity.

Julia Ibáñez highlighted the work of El Timón "for its commitment and defense of people in the field of mental health and their families". In addition, he claimed that "it should be a priority objective to allocate more resources and financial support to eliminate stigma and to continue promoting actions that favor care, inclusion and equal opportunities for people in the field of mental health."

"Administrations have to help where it is needed, and one of those areas is disability and mental health with more resources, budgets and spaces."

In this regard, it should be remembered that the City Council of El Ejido is going to create a Municipal Center for Disability and Mental Health that will be located in the old Ejidomar Warehouse. With almost 600 m2, it will house rooms and resources of common use for associations, facilitating collaborative work, attention to users, the development of training, sports and cultural activities and, of course, the coordination of programs committees.

The City Council of El Ejido already works throughout the year with the association El Timón through two important projects, the first, the gardening workshop that takes place in the Municipal Nursery and serves as occupational therapy for users and, the second, the program Remolinos de Quijotes, which is carried out entirely by the users themselves and is broadcast every week on the municipal radio station Radio Ejido.
